The Inspiration Behind Anya's Creations
Art Deco
The Art Deco period is the inspiration behind Anya Sushko’s debut Chic & Shape collection. The geometrical shapes and sharp silhouette of handbags such as the Theatrica, the Deco Dame, the Bowgard are stern yet playful, classic but with an avant-garde twist. Clean, sharp lines and a nod to monochrome complete the look. The decadent elegance of vintage jewelry, such as brooches inspired Anya to create a collection of structure accessories that are to be carried with grace.
Shapes | Human Body | Gothic | Nature
The complexity & symmetry of the human body often inspire the proportions in Anya Sushko’s designs. If you were to look deeply into her work, you could often see similarities to shapes that follow the curves of the body, such as the waist to hips ratio, as well as other proportions considered “perfect” and pleasing to the eye, such as the intricate wings of a butterfly. Anya often captures perfect everyday moments such as the subtle movement of the hips or the graceful perfection of a ballet pose in the lines as well as details of her handbags, created to celebrate freedom of movement and ease.
Architecture
Architecture is the inspiration behind a lot of Anya Sushko’s work – a result of her passion for the subject which she also studied in her early university days. Architectural elements such as arcs, the opulent details found in Renaissance period buildings as well as modern minimalism with its sharp, clean lines have inspired the geometric, bold shapes, signature of her designs.
Similar to architecture, Anya Sushko’s designs also have a dual purpose – aesthetic as well as functional. The design work involves creativity as well as the skillful coordination of the materials, technology & machinery.
